Gion Matsuri (July) and Daimonji (August 16) are Kyoto's biggest festivals. Streets fill with yatai (food stalls).
Try takoyaki, yakisoba, ikayaki (grilled squid), and kakigori (shaved ice). 500–800 yen each.
Gion Matsuri's Yoiyama nights (July 14–16) close streets to traffic — old townhouses open their doors to show family heirlooms.
