Most major Kyoto temples close around 16:30–17:00. Buy your ticket by 16:00 to actually enter.
Kinkaku-ji, Ginkaku-ji, and Ryoan-ji all close at 17:00 (16:30 in winter). Show up by 16:00 to avoid disappointment.
Fushimi Inari is the major exception — the shrine grounds and torii path are open 24/7.
