Pisa's Leaning Tower can be a half-day trip from Florence — but the city itself is small and most tourists just photograph the tower.
Climb the tower (15€, book ahead). The Duomo and Baptistery (also leaning slightly) are equally beautiful.
Lucca (15 min from Pisa) is a more rewarding day trip — walled city, bike-friendly walls, charming squares.
