Public trash cans are extremely rare in Tokyo. Carry a small bag for your trash until you reach your hotel or a konbini.
Convenience stores (7-Eleven, Lawson, FamilyMart) usually have bins inside or just outside. Only dispose of trash from items bought there.
Burnable, plastic, cans, and bottles are sorted separately. Look at the lids — colors and icons indicate what goes where.
