Strangers (often well-dressed, well-spoken) telling you a temple is closed are scammers. Wats are almost never unexpectedly closed.
They'll then suggest you visit 'another temple' with their tuk-tuk friend — leading to the gem shop scam.
Check temple closures on Google or by walking to the actual entrance. Ignore touts.
