Roman summer is brutal

July–August: 35–40°C with high humidity. Locals leave the city for the coast. Many small shops close for 2–4 weeks (Ferragosto).

Plan walking for early morning or evening. Midday is for indoor museums or air-conditioned cafes.

The Tiber and Roman Forum are partially shadeless — wear hats and sunscreen.
