The slopes from Yasaka Pagoda to Kiyomizu-dera through traditional wooden machiya houses are most beautiful 4–6 PM.
The Yasaka pagoda framed against the sunset is the postcard view of Kyoto.
Avoid this route 10 AM – 3 PM unless you love crowds. Most tourists clear out by 5 PM.
