Don't eat while walking

Eating on the move is considered rude in Japan. Eat standing near the vendor, or sit at a designated area.

Drinking from a vending machine bottle is fine if you stand by the machine. Walking with food is the issue.

Ice cream is the rare exception in summer. Even then, locals often stand still to eat it. Foreigners eating konbini food on the train particularly get glares.
