Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Yoro ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Yoro: City Culture Quiz app and the website at yoro.world. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

By using Yoro, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Name and email address (only if you sign in with Google)
  • Profile preferences you set within the app

Information we collect automatically

  • Anonymous User ID — assigned automatically when you open the app, even before you sign in, to save your progress locally
  • Quiz activity — scores, lessons completed, cities explored, XP earned, streaks
  • Device information — device type, operating system version
  • Country — derived from your IP address to display your flag in the app. We do not collect GPS or precise location data.

Information we do not collect

  • Payment card details (handled entirely by Google Play or Apple App Store)
  • Contacts, camera, microphone, or any other device sensor data
  • Precise GPS location

3. Anonymous Users

You can use Yoro without creating an account. When you do, we assign you a temporary anonymous ID to save your quiz progress on your device. This data is not linked to your identity. If you later sign in with Google, your anonymous progress is merged into your account so nothing is lost.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:
  • Create and manage your account
  • Save and sync your quiz progress across devices
  • Calculate XP, streaks, and achievements
  • Improve app content, fix bugs, and understand how users engage with the app
  • Respond to support requests and deletion requests

We do not use your data for advertising, sell it to third parties, or use it to build advertising profiles.

5. Data Sharing

We share limited data only with the following trusted service providers, solely to operate the app:
  • Supabase — secure storage of your account, progress, and quiz data (privacy)
  • Google OAuth — sign-in via your Google account (privacy)
  • Google Play / Apple App Store — app distribution and subscription billing
  • Expo / EAS — app build, delivery, and basic crash reporting (privacy)

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with advertisers.

6. In-App Purchases & Subscriptions

Yoro offers optional premium subscriptions. All billing is processed by Google Play or Apple App Store — we never receive or store your payment card details. Subscription status is securely communicated to our servers to unlock premium features.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account and progress data for as long as your account is active. If your account has been inactive for more than 2 years, we may delete it along with all associated data after giving you reasonable notice (if we have your email). Anonymous accounts with no activity for 12 months may be deleted automatically.

8. Data Security

All data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted using TLS (Transport Layer Security). Data stored on our servers (via Supabase) is encrypted at rest. Access to your data is restricted to authorized systems and personnel only.

9. Your Rights & Data Deletion

You have the right to:
  • Access the data we hold about you
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Correct inaccurate information

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@yoro.world. We will process your request within 30 days.

We honor requests under GDPR (for users in the European Union) and CCPA (for users in California, USA).

In-app deletion: You can also delete your account directly from the app's Profile screen.

10. Children's Privacy

Yoro is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under these ages. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@yoro.world and we will delete it promptly.

11. Third-Party Links

The app may contain links to third-party websites or services (such as city guides or travel resources). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties and encourage you to review their privacy policies.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. For significant changes, we will notify you within the app or via email (if we have it).

Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

13. Governing Law

This policy is governed by the laws of India. For users in the European Union, we comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For users in California, we comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Terms of Service

1. Using Yoro

Yoro is a learning app that helps travelers explore local culture through short, daily lessons. By using Yoro you agree to use it for personal, non-commercial purposes and to follow the laws of your country.

2. Your account

Some features require an account. You're responsible for the activity on your account. You can sign out or delete your account at any time from your Profile.

3. Yoro Premium subscription

Yoro Premium unlocks every lesson in every city. It is offered as a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription:
  • Monthly — US $5 / month
  • Yearly — US $50 / year

Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically at the same price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel anytime in your App Store or Google Play account settings — not inside the app. Refunds, where required, are handled by Apple or Google.

4. Acceptable use

Don't attempt to copy, redistribute, or reverse-engineer the app or its content. Don't use Yoro to harass other users.

5. Content

Lesson content is provided for educational purposes and may not be accurate or up to date for every location. Always follow local laws and customs.

6. Changes

We may update these terms. Continued use of Yoro after an update means you accept the new terms.
